REIKI
REIKI: The Japanese Art of Healing and Relaxation
In the stressful lifestyle we all
have experienced, most of us are seeking a way of peace, in our world. Just as
many folks have tried aerobics, yoga, meditation and other techniques, today
Reiki is attracting more and more people in their quest for healing, relaxation
and peace. Hospitals (more than 200) nationwide, are utilizing the effectiveness
of Reiki, combined with traditonal medical techniques, for their patients. REIKI
was re-discovered, in the early 1900’s by Dr. Mikao Usui, but the energy itself
goes back thousands of years, and is thought by many, to be the same energy
Jesus used in healing the sick.
|
REIKI translates as: “Rei”
Universal “Ki” Life Energy. The “ki” in Japanese has it’s
counterpart in China, which is “chi”, and in India: “prana”. Reiki
means: Universal Life Energy. It is something we are all born
with, and the very energy that, e.g., allows us to get out of bed in the
morning. When our personal life energy is in balance, we experience peace,
calmness, health. Conversely, when our Human Energy System (HES) is
stressed, out of alignment, we may experience problems with health,
relationships, peacefulness. |

Dr. Usui, born in Japan in
the late 19th Century, at a time of tremendous cultural change, had studied
on the spiritual path for years, seeking self-realization or enlightenment.
As part of his path, he studied meditation, and visited Mt. Kurama, one of
Japan’s spiritual centers--even today! His visit’s purpose was to meditate
and gain enlightenment. On the last day of his 21-day fast and meditation,
he was spontaneously “initiated” into Reiki. |
| Enlightenment manifested for Dr.
Usui, and although he did not recognize it, along with it, the ability to
heal. He began to train others in the way of Reiki---healing physically,
mentally, emotionally, spiritually. |
 |
Dr. Chujiro Hayashi, an M.D.
retired from the Navy, was among those taught Reiki by Usui, and he later
opened his own Reiki clinic, in Tokyo. |
 |
Hawayo Takata, born of
Japanese parents in Hawaii, became one of his patients. Her symptoms
included gallstone, appendicitis. After three months, she was healed and
sought Reiki training, from Dr. Hayashi. Eventually she was instructed at
the Reiki Master Level. Returning to her children and home in Hawaii, she
began to teach Reiki in Hawaii and also the mainland USA. |
There are more than One Million
Reiki Practitioners in the world today. And, millions, more, people, pets,
plants, have experienced the healing benefits of Reiki.
